Designing spaces for children where they can grow with the space over time is a delicate balance between playfulness and evolving maturity.
We were able to create a unique bedroom using an arch to act as a fort and architectural element in the space that highlights the slide. We used curtains to section off the two beds to ensure each child had their own space in the room while bold saturated colours energize the rest of the space. We balanced out the ‘play’ with the ‘rest’ areas in this bedroom by creating a zone for downtime and reading using cozy play couches and easy to reach shelving for books.
The hallway was designed to be an extension of the bedroom as a space for crafts and creativity. The use of a slat wall against the glass railing adds interest and acts as a threshold between the hallway and the creative nook. Wispy wallpaper with bold brush strokes invigorate the senses and the bright yellow wainscoting pulls from the yellow curtains in the bedroom.
